In Oberobsang, in the heart of Upper Franconia where beer has a long tradition, the new Bayreuther Brauhaus of Gebr. Maisel GmbH & Co. KG is being constructed in collaboration with Phase 5 Architekten and the general contractor W. Markgraf GmbH & Co. KG. This site will not only be a place for producing the famous Bayreuther Hell beer but also an architectural highlight that blurs the lines between nature and production.
The building complex consists of a production area and a logistics area with administration offices. These two areas are divided by a driveway used for deliveries. The complex is unified by the intensively greened roof landscape, which extends from the southwest as an extension of the existing terrain, spanning over both areas and making the complex almost disappear into the landscape from this direction. Only the brewing tower, with a height of about 26.5 meters, remains distinctly visible as a cubic structure, but it blends into the sky with its reflective panels, integrating seamlessly with the surrounding environment.
The northeastern side is the brewery's face. Here, the production area, including the brewhouse, filtration, malt tower, and fermentation cellar, is openly displayed through large window surfaces facing the main road B85, offering the first glimpses into the production process. For a deeper insight into the production, a two-story visitor area attached to the brewhouse provides a place for beer enthusiasts to learn about the making of Bayreuther Hell, from raw materials through production to bottling, and enjoy it in a cozy atmosphere during a beer tasting.
